Who is the greatest?
Well, the Bible says that God can do whatever He likes, whenever He likes and how He likes. Can you beat that because I certainly can’t.
Here is what the Bible says –
JOB.
CHAPTER 42.
2. No one can oppose you, because you have the power to do what you want.
NUMBERS.
CHAPTER 11.
23. The LORD answered, “I can do anything! Watch and you’ll see my words come true.”
It was this power that brought into being all creation. It is the power that maintains order in the whole universe.
At the beginning of the Bible in Genesis chapter 1 (if you have a Bible check it out) we repeatedly read the words “God said” or “God commanded” and whatever God gave orders to happen, happened. Can you do that?
Yes, we are told that God’s power is much greater than ours.
ISAIAH.
CHAPTER 55.
8. The LORD says: “My thoughts and my ways are not like yours.
9. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than yours.
Yes, God is the greatest
So where did He get this power? Job asks the same question.
JOB.
CHAPTER 34.
13. Did God get his power from someone else? Did someone put him in charge of the world?
Of course, the answer is “No!” He had that power from the beginning.
Because of these abilities it is said that God is omnipotent, that is, He has all power. That means He has supreme, unmatchable and indeed inexhaustible, unlimited power. God can do what He likes. And I believe that not only does He possess such power but what we have to recognise is that He uses it.
And Jesus, the Son of God, also has that same power.
MATTHEW.
CHAPTER 28.
18. Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth!
But most important, God and Jesus want to use their unlimited power to help us.
You no doubt are familiar with the Lord’s prayer. Well, it finishes like this
MATTHEW.
CHAPTER 6.
13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
You see God’s power is also greater than the power of evil. The Bible teaches that there is an unseen kingdom of darkness that is causing all the dreadful things happening in our world. These powers have caused us to do wrong things as well, lying, cheating, stealing, violent actions and so on.
And God has declared that all these need to be dealt with. They need to be punished because by giving in to the powers of evil we have breached God’s authority. We have broken His laws, we have rebelled, we have violated His holiness.
1 PETER.
CHAPTER 1.
16. The scripture says, “Be holy because I am holy.”
But we haven’t been able to do that. I haven’t been able to do it and I’m sure in all honesty you haven’t been able to do it either.

CHAPTER 3.
23. everyone has sinned and is far away from God’s saving presence.
So what should we do?
Well there is nothing we can do. We do not have the ability to free ourselves from the consequences of our wrongful actions.
But here is the good news. We don’t even have to try. You see, God has already used His power to free us from those consequences,
And it is all because of Jesus and what He has done.

CHAPTER 3.
24. But by the free gift of God’s grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus, who sets them free.
This is what we read in Luke’s gospel.
LUKE.
CHAPTER 5.
24. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the man who was paralyzed—“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.”
So we can be assured that our wrongdoings can be forgiven
But how does that happen?
JOHN.
CHAPTER 1.
12. Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God.
13. They were not God’s children by nature or because of any human desires. God himself was the one who made them his children.
COLOSSIANS.
CHAPTER 1.
13. God rescued us from the dark power of Satan and brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son,
14. who forgives our sins and sets us free.
So, we obtain freedom from the consequences of our wrong deeds by accepting what Jesus came to do, to die on the cross. We need to have faith in God, by believing what God says about the death of Jesus.
You know that He died on a cross. But do you know that He was there not as the result of His own misdeeds because He never once committed a sin. The reason He died on that cross was not for His sins but for yours and mine. He was dying for the sins of the world.
JOHN.
CHAPTER 3.
16. God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.
17. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them!
18. No one who has faith in God’s Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn’t have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God’s only Son.
He was dying to defeat the power that Satan and his evil kingdom had over us.
HEBREWS.
CHAPTER 2.
14. We are people of flesh and blood. That is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power over death.
15. But he also died to rescue all of us who live each day in fear of dying
All we need to do is genuinely admit that we have done wrong and then believe that Jesus accepted the punishment we deserved by dying for us on that cross so that we could have God’s forgiveness, not because we deserved it but because of God’s grace, because God wanted to exercise His power to do something wonderful for us. He wants to forgive us, accept us, and have a relationship with us, in fact to make us part of His family and not to be fearful about death.
You see, when we have faith in Him, when we believe that on that cross He died to bring us freedom, then His power will keep us safe.
ROMANS.
CHAPTER 8.
38. I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not life or death, not angels or spirits, not the present or the future,
39. and not powers above or powers below. Nothing in all creation can separate us from God’s love for us in Christ Jesus our Lord!
Yes, God is the greatest.
