“I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE”

(John 6:35):

In the Gospel of John, chapter 6 verse 35 Jesus said: “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Jesus speaks these words to a crowd hunger for another miracle, another sign, another loaf like the one He multiplied the day before. But He refuses to let them settle for full stomachs when He came to fill empty souls.

When He says, “I am the Bread of Life,” He is making a claim far deeper than providing food – He is offering Himself as the only source of true, sustaining life. Bread in the ancient world was not a side dish; it was survival. Without bread, people starved. Jesus chooses that image deliberately. He is saying: Without Me, your spirit starves. Without Me, your life becomes hollow. Without Me, you will keep searching for something to satisfy you – and never find it. We live in a world overflowing with substitutes: achievement, comfort, entertainment, approval. They promise nourishment but leave us spiritually underfed.

Jesus doesn’t offer a quick snack; He offers Himself as he daily, sustaining presence that strengthens, steadies, and satisfies. To come to Jesus is to stop chasing what never fills. To believe in Him is to receive a life that doesn’t spoil, fade, or run out. He doesn’t say, “I have bread,” He says, “I am the Bread.” The gift and the Giver are the same. So the invitation is simple and profound: Come to Him. Feed o His words. Trust His promises. Rest in His grace. And you will find what every human heart longs for – a nourishment that never runs dry.
